What is it about working in IT Support that makes one think very low and demeaning thoughts about one’s supportees?
In the face of all evidence to the contrary I don’t believe that these people have one brain cell for their communal use. Neither do I believe that the one cell has been traded in at the local pawn shop in exchange for drool to replenish the supplies that constantly dribble down their chin. I believe quite the opposite in fact.
I just wish that people would prove my belief.
What prompted this outburst? Well, a lot of little incidents, but the straw that broke the camel’s back was this innocuous comment: Sorry, I just can’t find it. I’m a visual person
The “it” in question was a database. The reason why they couldn’t find it? There wasn’t a shortcut on their desktop. It’s not that the file was hidden away or anything, quite the opposite. It was in the root of a network drive called, funnily enough, “databases”.
Now, if the individual was using a *nix command line they would have been slightly better off using that “visual person” phrase. Unfortunately they were using Windows XP. How much more VISUAL can you get?
