Hero, starring Jet Li. Here is one of those snappy ‘back of the box’ type quotes about this film by me:
I’ve never been subjected to so much bullshit in such a short space of time.
This film sucks. It takes a lot for me to say that because I’m a martial arts film fan. The storyline is absolutely appauling and very difficult to keep track of, even more so than regular films from that side of the planet. Unfortunately the fighting just doesn’t cut the mustard and, therefore, doesn’t save the film from the abyss of boredom.
I was tempted to turn it off, but I just couldn’t believe that the film wouldn’t get better. It didn’t. Don’t buy it. I would even suggest against renting it.
I created a category specifically because of this film, and I think I’m going to slap my opinons of various films and books on here because… well, because I can. :)

I liked that movie. For the artsy reasons, for the martial arts…. it was good.

I’m fairly sure this was what Mr BW was watching the other day. His version was in Mandarin though (sent to him by one of his Chinese Team), and subtitled. I caught bits as I passed through. I thought it looked like a complete heap of junk.
He said the cinematography (is that the right word - I have no idea, I’m not a Film-Loving-Witch) was fabulous.

This is true BW, but fabulous cinematography does not a good movie make.

Yes, the cionamatography was great. And you know me Splee, im a bit partial to the Kung Fu. Not so much the “swatting a thousand arrows fromt he air” parts, but the first fight with the spears in the gameroom was SICK.
Though, I do study it, so I definitly am more interested in it.
