Beardy Splee?

I’m thinking of growing a beard. Not to make myself look distinguished. Neither is it to make me look cool nor older than I actually am. It’s mainly because I’m damned lazy.

The way I see it, beardage is the only way to go for the person who cannot be arsed to shave in the mornings. When you have this brand of lazyness, plus a small amount of Shaveaphobia(1) I think cultivating a beard is an enevitable thing.

So I’m giving it a go. I may post pictures of my progress. Then again, I may not. It depends which way the wind is blowing.

Footnotes:

(1) Shaveaphobia: A fear of shaving because it may result in:

  • Shaving rash
  • Spots
  • Dry skin
  • All of the above

Insomniac

Since I have an early start today I went to bed at 10pm last night. Unfortunately that does not mean I went to sleep. The last time I remember looking at the clock it was 12:15am at which point I must have dozed off… finally.

3am. Ping Awake. Why, I cannot say. I’ve been fooling around with the blog a bit (see if you can spot the difference), playing with Netbeans and generally killing time. Oh, and being thirsty.

It’s amazing how little I want to drink the water from the tap even though I’m parched. I ran out of [insert brand name bottled water here] last night. I know you’ll all think I’m a snob, but the tap water is really hard here and, therefore, tastes like someone dissolved a jumbo pack of teachers chalk in it. You can actually see the damn stuff floating around. So yes; I’m a snobby bottled water drinker. I may save myself some cash and get a water filter though. I will be able to save money on more than water if I do that.

Servers that explode are fun!

One of the servers at work died today. When I say ‘died’ I really mean it. At some point over night the whole thing just locked, to be found in the same state of digital rigor mortis this morning.

We ordered a new server from our supplier and, to their credit, they managed to guarantee that it will be delivered between 7am and 10am tomorrow morning. So I have a fun (read: tedious) day of server building tomorrow. I’m going to time it and see if I can beat my previous build time of 1 hour 45 minutes.

It shows just how far we’ve come though; the server that we are replacing was a duel processor p3 with 512 mb RAM and SATA raid (added after the initial purchase). To get hardware that, while not dual processor, will probably be a degree of magnatude quicker has cost us less than a quater of the price. Servers (at least, low end ones) are cheap these days.

Splee and Blogger.com

Something has been tickling the back of my mind over the past few days, especially after the URL of some of the blogs I read regularly actually sunk in; of course, I’d seen them before, but you know the moment that you actually see them?

I’ve been trying to work out what it was and today, BLAM, it hits me. I’m a born again blogger!! I’ve blogged before, and I didn’t even remember it. Well, if you can actually call this blogging. The things people will do to get a gmail account eh?

That’s got to be the shortest 15 minutes of blogging history ever.

Is it bad when your eyes dribble from their sockets?

Originally this was a small rant about work. I’ve since decided that no-one actually wants to hear about that so, for your viewing pleasure:

Chinese chicken shortage

I decided that I would get chinese food on the way home tonight as it’s a half way house and it was really cold outside. I ordered chicken with cashew nuts and bamboo shoots. I expected chunks of chicken in an anonymous but tasty sauce with a smattering of cashews and bamboo.

What I actually got was a box full of mouth drying cashews, 2 bamboo shoots, a dribble of evil liquid and one small, soggy bit of chicken.

To say I was dissapointed with my ‘feast’ was an understatement to say the least. I actually had to drink nearly 2 litres of water to sink that meal. I still ate it though. I was hungry.
