Life is trundling by as usual. Well, not entirely ‘as usual’ because I’ve done absolutely nothing worth mentioning. So, in fact, work is trundling by as usual and my life is on hold.
Talking of work, I’ve come to realise that I’m being taken for a ride by my employers with regards to my pay. First off, let me just say that I’m not a greedy person and I don’t constantly think about money. However, when one realises what others in ones profession get paid and one then compares that with ones own wages, one tends to get irritated.
Another problem is my promotion prospects. There are none. There are only two people in our IT department, one of them being me. Add to that the fact that my boss really isn’t very good at IT and the running of the servers, client machines, software and website fall squarely on my shoulders. This means that my workload is crazy; another catalyst for irritation when wages come to mind.
I’ve only been at the company for 6 months, but I think that it may be time to find something else.

Don’t be afraid to look. You have a job to tide you over while you do. What I see alot is people who get stagnant at a job, and are afraid to change their place in life, or feel the unconfortable change of starting in a new place.
If you see no future where you are, I say go for it despite the pains of a new job.

It’s always good to keep a Plan B in the back of the mind.

and once you’ve got the next thing lined up, you can maybe use it as a lever to get your compensation increased. if you want to stay, that is.

It’s there, it was just in the moderation queue coz you used a different email address. :)
And I think that’s what I’m going to do as I do love working here. It’s such a relaxed environment, the people are cool, and it’s a short walk from home. I’ll see what else is available and approach them saying, “I’ve got this option available for £[insert pay here] but I’d like to stay, can you match it”?

well, “match” can be a scary word to some…
