London Music Scene

The site I have been working on is done, at least in the first stage of its evolution.

Curious Generation organises and promotes cutting edge live music. If you’re in the London area and you’re interested in going to see some up and coming bands doing live gigs at The Marquee Club, www.curiousgeneration.com is the place to go. Sign up to their forums to discuss the upcoming events and generally talk about your favorite bands.

I am not physically dead…

… just mentally.

I’m so tired. I don’t know how people actually work two jobs all the time! I’m only doing extra work in the evenings to help out a friend and it’s got me completely fried.

A day in the life of your regular common-or-garden Splee at the moment:

7:15 am: Turn off alarm clock. 8:45 am: Wake up with the realisation that I have 15 minutes to get from bet to work. 9:20 am: Arrive at work. Late. Again. 9:21 am: Start coding Java, ASP.NET and Python (the three languages of the three different projects I’m working on) 12.30pm: Lunch 1.30pm: Work. 6pm: Head home 6.35pm: Get home. Eat. 7:15pm: Continue with HTML/PHP/MySQL site and get thoroughly pissed off with not being able to get a look that I like. 1am: Sleep.

Rinse and repeat.

Seriously, I know exactly how Bill Murray felt in Groundhog day. I can only tell it’s a different day because I’m wearing a different shirt.

Anyhoo, my posts shall be sparse for a while.

Speccy Splee

I’ve had glasses for a good few months now, although I hardly ever wear them. They were recommended after I got an eye injury and I’d had a few visits to the opticians. I’ve noticed over the last few weeks that I’m straining to focus while doing my thang on the putational equipment and, while clearing out my room, I found my glasses buried under a load of old paperwork.

I decided to test them out and, boy oh boy, do they make a difference! My eyes must have got a lot worse, probably due to my abstinence from speccy assistance, so I’m going to have to go to the optician again and have them ask me to pillage my bank account for a new pair of glasses. In fact, with the prices they’re charging at the moment, they’re not only going to pillage; they’ll burn down the metaphorical village too.

Here’s to being able to actually see if a font is anti-aliased or not. (God that’s geeky!)

Spelling is your friend

Google have released the beta3 of their toolbar, which integrates a spell checker for your web boxes. That is a superb idea, especially for bloggers.

Unfortunately the toolbar is Internet Explorer only, which meant that I was spell-checker-less. That, my friends, I was not going to stand for.

After a bit of hunting I found Rite Of Tongue, a phrase checker powered by either google or yahoo, depending on which you choose in the settings.

It’s not quite a spell checker, but it does a very good job of pointing out blindingly obvious spelling mistakes and can be dead handy as the alternate spellings are similar to what you might see if you tried to search for a mis-typed word on Yahoo! Search.

So, anyone interested in developing a bona-fide spell checking extension for firefox?
