I never expected an explanation of a Content Management System to take so much time and effort. The conversation just kept going round and round in circles with no end in sight. No matter how much I tried to simplify the situation, speak in monosyllabic sentences, or use diagrams and improvised sign language, the guy couldn’t or wouldn’t understand.

Around halfway through the ordeal we both fell silent for a minute. A full minute of silence while we both collected our respective thoughts and tried to rationalise the whole situation.

It was at this point that I found myself in a strange moment of lucid reflection - the eye of the storm if you will - and I found I was mentally pulling on my Black Gloves. You know the ones; the Black Gloves that the bad guy always makes a big show of pulling on and making sure they fit… well… like a glove. The Gloves that are an undoubtable prelude to a huge amount of death, destruction, acrobatics and pyrotechnics.

With not so much of the death and destruction, mainly verbal acrobatics and a tiny bit of pyrotechnics (the bulb went out on the projector which kind of flashed a little bit), I eventually walked out the victor, able to fight another day.

So beware. If you see me glaze over for a second or two while we’re having a heated conversation, that’ll be the Black Gloves.
