Hosted Gmail

I’ve just got hold of my invite for Hosted Gmail, and it’s made me very happy. Not only does it give me the awesome Gmail web interface but, as an added bonus, my mail.app doesn’t have to keep asking me which mail server to use when I’m in different locations. Normally I have to fill this in with the mail server address of the ISP I’m currently connected to.

I’ll be giving it a thrashing as soon as my MX records have updated properly and I’ll post an update.

RHCP gig

I’m currently holding in my grubby paws a few tickets for the Red Hot Chili Peppers gig in Earl’s Court in a few weeks. I’m so excited, I haven’t been to a live gig in ages.

Back in the old days, when being a student allowed me ridiculous amounts of freedom, I’d go to random gigs and festivals all the time and I loved it. I’ve seen the Chili Peppers live before, at Reading Festival, but going to a gig that is theirs and not a festival where they’re headlining somehow seems more special.

Finally upgraded

I’ve finally upgraded my blog to v2.0.x of Wordpress. I was previously on 1.5.x and there was nothing of note that made me to want to upgrade. That was until I found out that my category permalinks weren’t working.

I decided that something as simple as a PHP5 compatibility issue must have been fixed in the latest and greatest version of WP so I duly upgraded. Thankfully, the WP team have, as usual, done a stellar job of making the upgrades as easy as pie. The blog didn’t even go down while the files were uploading!

Test with Markdown syntax

I’m going to take a look at using MarkDown in my posts from now on, as there is a MarkDown plugin bundled with WordPress and it looks to be easier than Textile.

So, basically, this is another test post. I may delete it, I may not… who knows!?

Blogging from TextMate

The more and more I use my Mac and the software available for it, the more and more I realise that I wouldn’t be able to live without some of the nifty stuff that can be done.

This, dear readers, is being posted from TextMate. Beat that! I’m just curious as to whether or not the Textile blog post offered in TM actually translates the text to HTML before posting it to the blog. I know that my “Wordpress”:http://wordpress.org install doesn’t have a Textile plugin at the moment.

If you can’t stand the heat…

I know it’s been brought up before by many other people… here’s me jumping on the bandwagon:

My MacBook Pro runs very hot.

I don’t know if it’s within normal limits though, and I can’t find any real numbers out there on the interweb to either send me running for the hills or to put my mind at rest. Does anyone know the what the operating temperatures on one of these dual core bad boys should be?

At the moment I’m running at a steady 60% processor usage (I’m installing windows on Parallels) and my CoreDuoTemp.app is showing a steady 88-90 degrees C. I’m pretty certain that’s not healthy, but by what margin? What should the temperature be at under that kind of load?

I’ve also noticed that when the laptop gets that hot the wireless drops out every 30 seconds or so. At least, I think that the two events coincide.
