Big Brother

In the past I’ve been vehement in my resolve to stay away from Big Brother. However, I’ve always caved half way through the series and started watching, if only to be able to hold a conversation with everyone else going nuts about the antics of the housemates.

So, this series, I’m getting into it from the start. I have a feeling I’m going to be horribly addicted, but that’s the price one pays for watching. I’m even pre-emptively creating a Big Brother category.

I have to say, I’m terribly dissapointed that Shibaz is one of the leaders of “The Big Brotherhood” as he’s exempt from evictions this week. That dude has to go, pronto. Most. Annoying. Bloke. Ever. And I use the term “bloke” loosely.

Return from (blogging) oblivion

I’ve not posted in a long time… and I have my reasons. Among them are the fact that I got a bit bored with blogging and I got very busy with life in general.

I also got despondant about my design, which always makes me want to visit my own site less.

I might be back on this full time again, or I might just get equally as bored as I was previously. Either way, at least I’ve posted something ;)

It’s been a long time coming…

Wow, it’s been nearly a month since I posted. December was so action packed that I just plain forgot to write about any of it.

The main reason for my hectic schedule was due to the fact that Christmas is the only time of the year when all my freinds are back home, rather than scuttling through life’s rat race in London. It’s a rare occaision when I get to go out and see everyone at the same time. I spent so much money in the pub (I’m still not drinking, but it’s amazing how expensive Diet Coke actually is) but it was all worth it.

The company Christmas party was great, for the most part. It’s always amusing to see your work colleagues and, in particular, your bosses lose all control under the influence. However, being harrassed by a bi-sexual german took some shine off the night, as did a drunken boss throwing up in the back of my car. If Carlsberg made shitty nights out, they’d probably be something like that.

Christmas itself was nice. Pressies abounded and I got an awesome gift: A days racing at Silverstone. I’m going to book it asap, as I simply love driving and I’ve always wanted to be able to throw a car around a track.

For Christmas day we had 16 people for dinner. My sister’s boyfriend is Italian and his family came over for a week. It was the first time they’ve left Italy and was actually the first time his father had flown, so their english was non-existant. Still, the language barrier wasn’t as big a deal as I thought it would be. It’s amazing how you can convey meaning just by speaking and using body language, even when the spoken language isn’t the same. You can pick up a lot just by inflection and facial expressions.

New Years Eve was a ball. I went out in Harpenden with a couple of mates and, as NYE and my birthday are the two exceptions to my no drinking rule, got rather drunk. I wasn’t too bad though as I was taking it slow. My alcohol tolerence has dropped rediculously, I found. I ended up drinking a pint of water for every pint of beer to keep me from becoming a gibbering mess, which worked out quite well as it meant that my hangover was severely reduced.

And now, back to work.

Yet another re-design

Another bout of insomnia, another design. :) It seems I’m at my most creative when lacking in sleep, which goes against popular belief.

There seems to be a wierd CSS bug with the “slidey bits” which wasn’t apparent on my original mock up; the arrow to collapse the div should be the same colour as the section above it.

I’ll squash this one when I get home.

update: I squashed it anyway. I simply couldn’t wait till I got home. Many thanks to Tinster for his help with various bits and doodads.

Theme Switch

As you can see I’ve switched themes. I was going to create my own from scratch, but it was getting lost in the background noise of my hectic schedule at the moment. Now I’ve switched I am going to modify this theme as I go and personalise it.

I’ve also got a few bits and pieces to do with regards to cleaning up my categories, my links and my pages. Hopefully it won’t take too long before everything is ship shape.

Sleep Deprivation is good for the soul.

I seem to go through these bouts of sleeplessness about once every 2 months, and I’m starting to get tired (yuk yuk) of it. I cannot seem to pinpoint the reason for it either which just exacerbates the problem. Being able to pin a reason on something is 90% of the battle in getting it fixed, at least for me.

Unfortunately, when these little episodes of insomnia come around again, it means that I’m late for work, irritable, and have difficulty concentrating. Oh, and a combination of tiredness and looking at a screen makes my eyes hurt.

All in all, not being able to sleep is rubbish so I decided today that I wasn’t going to take this lying down (dearie me, they’re flowing thick and fast today!) and that I’d be proactive and… stuff.

Whilst being all proactive and preppy in my dream-like state this morning I found 30 simple tips to help you get to sleep. Most of these tips are common sense, such as avoid naps and keep regular bedtime hours.

Some however are a little odd like the suggestgion to Sleep with your head facing North, or just plain strange like “Quiet Ears“.

I will, however, be trying each and every one of these techniques over the next few days in varing combinations. Who knows, all this plotting and scheming to try and sleep may make me tired enough to go out like a light once I actually get in bed!
